Burns SSJ Bass VI Greenburst 2019

Burns SSJ, Greenburst, made in Korea 2019. Burns were a classic London based guitar brand in the 60s, offering some brilliant and quirky guitars that did very well in the UK and Europe. This is a recent Club Series model, which re-booted some classic models, made to a great standard out of Korea. This model is called the SSJ: 'short scale jazz'. It's a 30" Bass VI offering, with some similarities and key differences from the Fender and Squier takes on the genre. First up, the hardware is pretty good: it's got a subtle vibrato tailpiece, a sturdy roller tune-o-matic style bridge, a zero fret and decent tuners, which all combine to elevate the playing feel significantly above the Squier offering in my humble opinion. The pickups are overwound single coils with big fat pole pieces, and they're very good too. You can get heaps of snarl and snap out of them, but they're expressive and musical ydner a light touch too. The finish looks super mean: it's got a vintage sci-fi aesthetic, and I'm here for it. This is a really fun instrument, it's the most enjoyable take on the Bass VI genre I've come across.
